International Harvester had been formed in 1902 by the merger of McCormick Harvesting Machine Company and Deering Harvester Company, and early tractors were sold under 'Mogul' brand (McCormick) or 'Titan'. The first IH Tractor was the 'Junior 8-16' of 1917 with an overhead valve 4.1-litre 4-cylinder taken from the current IH Truck, and other models followed. But in 1923 IH introduced the 'Farmall' brand of cheaper tractors targetted at the Ford products, and this gave them good sales until challenged by better cheaper Allis-Chalmers Tractors. In 1984 the Case Corporation bought out the Tractor side of International Harvester.
