Jaguar XJ13 The XJ13 was the first vehicle to carry the Jaguar V12 engine, in the form of a 5-litre pairing of two XK 6-cylinder engines. The car was built in 1966 and Malcolm Sayer designed the aerodynamic body for the mid-engined prototype. However, the XJ13 was not likely to be competitive without a lot of development, and it would have been hard to get it into the league of the 7-litre Le Mans winning Ford GT40. The solitary XJ13 gathered dust until it was given an airing in 1971 to provide publicity shots for the new Jaguar E-type V12.. During the filming a rear puncture caused the XJ13 to crash heavily all but destroying it. Abbey Panels rebuilt the XJ13 in 1973 to the specification they had used for their 1966 build. |
