Jaguar XJ Series III
The Jaguar XJ series III was launched in 1979 with a comprehensive restyle including taller glass raising the overall hieght by 1.5 inches, and restyles to the nose and to the tail. The XK 3.4 and 4.3-litre engines continued along with the 5.3-litre V12 and there were Daimler versions for the European market, but not for America where cars were badged 'Jaguar Sovereign' or 'Vanden Plas'. Although the Series III was intended as a stop-gap model until the engineering of the XJ40 model was ready, strong sales saw the Series III continue until 1986.
