In 1956 Lincoln regained sales lost in 1955 with a new body for its cars and a new mid range 'Premiere' model pitched above the Capri but sharing much of that car's engineering. With styling based on the 1954 Mercury XM-800 show car, Wheelbase was increased to 126 inches and the length went up by 7 inches and the width by 3. A new 6,030cc V8 gave plenty of power. The Premiere was the upmarket car, offered as hardtop coupe, 4-door Landau sedan and as a rare convertible (not available on the Capri model). Styling changed little for 1957, although the wings were raised and at the front 'QuadraLites' were fitted, as 7-inch headlamps above 5-inch roadlamps. Power output for the 368 cu.in. engine was increased to 300 bhp. For 1958 Lincoln gave its cars a new unibody, shared with the Capri, the Premiere and the Continental but with styling differences; wheelbase grew from 126 to 131 inches.
