Mercury Division's version of the Ford Galaxie 1960-65 was marketed as the Monterey. An all new model was launched in 1961 built on a 120-inch wheelbase and actually being longer than any Lincoln of that year. Trim levels offered were Monterey, Monterey Custom, S-55, Colony Park. The 1963 2door and 4door Hardtops featured a reverse-slope rear window (like the Ford Anglia) called 'Breezeway'. In 1963 Mercury offered a Marauder fastback on the S-55 line with engines up to a 425bhp 427 unit. The 'Breezeway' option was continued when the Monterey was revamped in 1965, but was finally dropped in 1968 losing out to better ventilation and air conditioning. As well as the hardtops, the Monterey was offered as a 4-door sedan, a convertible and a station wagon.
