Mini Special editions Perhaps the very first special edition Minis were the Riley Elf/Wolseley Hornet, but the trend for special editions commenced with the Mini MkVI and one of the first was the 'Mini Mayfair' from 1982. Thereafter special editions sought to give extra equipment, or to commemorate milestones in the Mini heritage, or external events. The 'Mini Cooper' was re-introduced as the 'RSP Mini Cooper' in 1990, a collaboration between John Cooper Garages and Rover Special Products (RSP). This car was based on the Mini 30 and was given a 1275cc MG Metro engine and 1650 were built. This RSP Cooper sold so well that it was followed in 1991 by the Rover Mini Cooper 1.3i as a normal production model. In 1994 200 Mini Cooper Monte Carlo versions of the Mini MkVI were sold to celebrate 30 years since first Monte Carlo win. John Cooper Garages sold 35 'Mini Cooper Grand Prix' cars from 1994 to 1996 with 86bhp engine. In 1995 Mini Cooper S is relaunched, and 200 Mini Cooper 35s were sold in 1996. The Mini ceased production in October 2000. |
