Morris Minor The first Morris Minor was launched in 1928 as an answer to arch rival Austin's little Austin Seven. It initially benefitted from the technology of Wolseley's overhead cam engine before a cheaper Morris sidevalve engine was developed. The Minor grew up and was replaced in 1934 by the Morris Eight. After the Second World War the ideas of Alec Issigonis were given free rein and the radical 'poached egg' small car was launched in 1948 with the 'Morris Minor' name. A Series II Minor was launched in 1954 and the 'Minor 1000' in 1957, but even the launch of the Morris Mini Minor in 1959 could not kill off the Morris Minor which continued even after the tiny Morris became known as simply the 'Morris Mini'. In 1962 Morris gave their Minor a bigger 1098cc engine and a few modest changes and the Minor soldiered on until the end of the decade |
