In 1958 the year-old GM B-body was given radically reworked front and rear sections and appeared to be an all new car. Wheelbase went up to 1226.5-inches for the Dynamic 88 and Super 88, and 126.5-inches for the 98. The extraordinary body was designed under Art Ross and had so much decoration that it was dubbed 'ChromeMobile'. This revamp replaced the controversial 3-piece rear window (also found on the 1957 Buick Riviera) with a one-piece wraparound window. The 4-door pillarless Holiday Sedan continued with a 2-door version, along with 2 and 4 door sedans, convertible and 4-door station wagons. Similar bodies were available on the pricier Super 88 and on the bigger 98. The 88 was given a new body after 1959. Oldsmobile sales dipped to 299,657, although 1958 was a recession year and overall auto sales were down to 60 per cent.
