Packard Model 115
Packard introduced the Model 115C Packard Six in September 1936 for the 1937 season as a way of generating volume in the recession years. A 4,018cc 6-cylinder 100bhp side valve engine was designed for a smaller car than the Packard Eights. The Six was built on a 115-inch wheelbase. Bodies styled by Werner Gubitz captured the elegance of the larger Eights, and 65,000 were sold in the first year. There was a recession in America in 1938 and the Six enabled Packard to ride this out, but at the same time it made Packard more common on the streets and some of the higher values sales were lost because Packards had become less exclusive. For 1940 Packard renamed the Six the Packard 110 and production was suspended from 1941 to 1946 and ended in 1948.

In spite of good sales, the Six was perceived as too cheap to be a Packard and for 1938 and 1939 it was given a 122-inch wheelbase and move up market. Sadly this coincided with a recession in car sales across the US market in 1938.

For 1938 it was enlarged to 122-inches and the engine was enlarged too. But 1938 was a recession year for automobile sales in America so Packard didn't get the sales they had targetted.
