There was also a Packard 'Light Eight' (Model 900) for 1932 which was built on a shorter 127.75-inch chassis; this was perceived as cheapening the Packard brand and increasing the number on the roads. For 1933 Packard introduced the 'Super Eight' 1004 to try and sell in the territory of the previous Packard Twelve. A 6,306cc inline 8-cylinder 145bhp engine powered the Super Eight; they had x-braced chassis and a vee-shaped grille. The Super Eight and Twelve were built on a 142-inch wheelbase. Eleventh Series cars were introduced in August 1933 with modest restyling. There was a 1201 for 1935, and 1936 cars were known as the Fourteenth series as the Thirteenth Series was not produced. The Fourteenth Series cars had an angled grille. In 1937 the Fifteenth Series was given a 5,244cc engine. The Packard Super Eight continued as the Sixteenth Series in 1938 and the Seventeenth Series in 1939 and finally the Eighteenth Series in 1940. A new 'Clipper' model was introduced in 1942.
