Paramount Cars
WA Hudson and S Underwood hoped to build an Alvis special under the Paramount name in 1948, but were forced to moderate their ideas when it became clear that an Alvis engine would be too costly. The production version was launched in 2-seater or 4-seater convertible form in 1950 with twin carb Ford Ten engines. In 1951 the company was bought out and moved from Swadlincote to Melbourne, Derbyshire when the Meynell Motor Company bought them out. Meynell was no more successful and in 1952 he sold out to a company in Leighton Buzzard which developed a hardtop version and brought in the Ford Consul engine. However, the car now cost much more than the Ford Consul convertible and sales dried up. After just 72 cars Paramount Cars ceased trading.
