Plymouth used the 'Belvedere' name on a hardtop version of the Plymouth Cranbrook in 1951. In 1954 'Cranbrook' was dropped 'Belvedere' was given to the top Plymouth, offered as a 2-door hardtop, 2-door estate, 2-door convertible, and 4-door sedan on a 114-inch wheelbase. In 1955 Plymouth gained a new 'Forward Look' body by Virgil Exner for 1957. With a 115-inch wheelbase the Belvedere now offered 6 bodies and 7 engines including 6 V8s. 1957 Plymouths were 5 inches lower than 1955 cars, had 118-inch wheelbase and 7 body styles. A new 301 (4.9-litre) V8 'Fury' model was introduced in 1957, and in 1959 the Fury became a full model line above the Belvedere which was demoted to mid range. For 1960 a new unibody was given to the Belvedere along with a new slant-six engine. A new more compact body was given to the 1962 Belvedere and only the slant-six engine or a 383 V8. The 1965 Belvedere was restyled, whilst stay almost the same size whilst the Fury was enlarged. The final Belvedere appeared 1968 to 1970.
