The first 'Savoy' was just a premium version of the 1951 Plymouth Concord Suburban station wagon, but for 1952 the same car was simply named 'Plymouth Savoy'. It was only for 1954 that the Plymouth Savoy was offered as a Club Coupe, 2 or 4-door sedan and Suburban Wagon. It had also gone from being premium, to being just above the entry level Plymouth Plaza. The Plymouth Savoy gained a new 'Forward Look' body by Virgil Exner for 1955. Virgil Exner also oversaw completely new bodies for 1957 which were promoted as being three years ahead; 'The car you might have expected in 1960 is at your dealers today!' Wheelbase grew to 118-inches but the Plaza was dropped for 1959 leaving the Savoy models as entry level. For 1960 a new unibody was brought out and a slant six engine, but the Savoy was only sold in 2-door or 4-door sedans. A new body for 1963 also gave the Savoy a station wagon, but the last full year for the Savoy was 1964.
