In 1959 the 'Catalina' badge took the place of 'Chieftain' on its entry level cars and these followed the 1959 GM styling, but were now offered as sedans, convertibles, and wagons as well as hardtops. New 121-inch bodies with 'coke bottle' styling were introduced in 1965. Standard power was a 389 V8 or an optional 421. 1964 Catalina had been offered with a 2+2 package which gave rear bucket seats; for 1965 the 2+2 options were sold as a performance model. The 1966 Catalina was given minor restyling ahead of the heavily reworked 1967 Catalina. 1969 Catalinas were reworked to lose their coke bottle waists, and new 'beak' nose for 1970 before a new body in 1971.
