Renault announced the Monasix at the 1927 Salon de Paris, and gave the Type RY a new 1,476cc 6-cylinder 8CV engine. The name 'Mona' was the first ever name given to a Renault. For 1929 the Monasix was revised as the Type RY-1 with few changes, but the RY-1 Monastella is introduced, a better equipped and trimmed Monasix. Renault moved the Radiator to the front of the engine for the 1929 RY-2 and gave the 'coal scuttle' hood a grille. This grille was developed further for the RY-3 and side vents added to cool the engine uprated to 33hp. Production of the Monasix ended in 1932 when it was replaced by the Monaquatre
