When Chrysler increased its stake in Simca in 1963 it inherited Project 928 in an advanced state. Engineered by Philippe Grundeler and Charles Scales the new car was an advanced front wheel drive hatchback with independent suspension on all wheels. It is launched with 944cc and 1,118cc versions of the Type 315 engine first introduced in the rear-engined Simca 1000 in 1961, and in 1972 a 1,294cc variant was given to the Simca 1100 Special (which had a 1,204cc tuned unit from 1970). There was a mild revamp in 1970 with front indicators becoming clear (instead of orange), and a larger tailgate window from 1972, and enlarged rear lamps from 1975. The Chrysler Horizon takes over from the 1100 range in 1978 although the model continues until 1981 carrying Talbot badges from 1979.
