Simca developed the 1300/1500 under engineer Montabone, who afterwards went back to Fiat, and this model has some Fiatesque features. But the 1300 version was given the 1290cc engine from the Aronde and Ariane when launched at the 1963 Geneva Salon. In 1964 the 1500 model was launched with a new 1475cc engine given twin Webers. GL models followed in 1965 better equipped than most of their competitors, and in the same year three Simca 1500 estate cars joined the range. Disc brakes had been standard on the front of the 1500 model and in 1966 were also given to the 1300 models. Late in 1966 the 1300/1500 range was replaced by the 1301/1501 range which was 2 inches longer at the front and 6 inches longer at the rear, although Estate models did not get extended rears. In 1969 the model range was trimmed, but the 1501 Special was added with a more highly tuned engine. From 1971 the 1301/1501 production was run down because the new Chrysler 160/180 model was intended to replace it, but slow sales of this new model saw the older Simca being re-introduced in 1973. It was gone by 1975 replaced by the Chrysler Alpine/Simca 1307/8
