Singer Super Ten Singer launched the Super Ten in 1938, giving it an 1194cc version of the 1047cc engined used in the Singer Nine Roadster. This engine had a chain-driven overhead cam and was more advanced than its market competitors. Only a 6-light 4-door saloon body was offered, and 75 per cent of all cars were exported because the Super Ten was not competively priced against other British 10hp cars. Production was suspended for the duration of the war, and when restarted the Super Ten was given a 4-speed gearbox, hydraulic brakes, and a restyled grilled. Singer sold 10,000 Super Tens before it was replaced in 1948 with the new Singer SM1500 that replaced both the Ten and the Twelve. |
