Steyr-Puch 500 and 650
Steyr-Daimler-Puch built diesel-engined trucks and buses after WWII, and resumed production of Steyr cars. But times were harder and Steyr negotiated with Fiat to build versions of the Italian models, including the Fiat 1100E, a Steyr-engined Fiat 1400 sold as the Steyr 2000. The Steyr-Puch was a Fiat 500 body and mechanics adapted by Steyr to use its own boxer twin 493cc air-cooled engine coupled to Steyr transmission and an advanced braking system. Launched as the Puchwagen in 1957 it came with a full length sunroof. In 1959 the Steyr-Puch 500D was launched, the roof closed by a solid hardtop which gave good headroom, and a new 500DL was added to the range with uprated engine and extra trim. In 1967 Steyr belatedly replaced its 'suicide' doors, and reverted to a semi-cabriolet roof as given to the Italian Fiat 500 and now marketed as the 'Steyr 500E'. In 1969 the Steyr 500S was launched which was in fact the full Italian Fiat 500 with Fiat 20hp engine. Steyr also produced the Giardiniera estate car variant and sold this as the 700C and the cheaper 700E. Both the 700 models had a 650cc engine which was later given to the 650T (a replacement for the 500DL). The 650TR was tuned to give 27bhp, and a later 650 TRII was available tuned to 42bhp. Steyr-Puch 500 and 650 cars were produced until 1973 when the company started making its own version of the Fiat 126.

Steyr-Puch 650 S 1970. Steyr did not officially produced a '650 S' so it is likely that this is a late model '500 S' given the 643cc engine from the 650T or 650TR.
