Talbot 90 and 105 Georges Roesch designed the 14/45 six cylinder 1665cc engine with an overhead valve system for 1926. From 1930 the engine was developed into a 2276cc 6-cylinder engine for the 1930 Talbot 70 and later Talbot 75, both named after their top speed, the '75' moniker arising from an underestimate of the '70' top speed! The 'Talbot 90' was developed out of the Talbot 75 for the 1930 Brooklands race by modifying the cylinder head to give 93bhp. 3rd and 4th places were achieved at the 1930 Le Mans 24hour race. For 1931 Roesch further developed the engine enlarging it to 2,969cc and creating the Talbot 105. The 1931 Le Mans 24hour race saw a Talbot 105 in 3rd place, with prizes on the Alpine Trial in 1931 and 1932. In 1935 Sunbeam-Talbot-Darracq fell on hard times inspite of the good sales provided by the Roesch-designed cars, and was acquired by the Rootes brothers. |
