Vanden-Plas Princess 4-litre R
For 1964 the Vanden Plas 3-litre was developed into the Princess 4-litre R (ADO 66) with Rolls-Royce sourced 4-litre engine. In fact the ADO66 Princess 4-litre R began as a secret project which BMC developed for Rolls-Royce to create a Bentley Java as an entry level car for the Rolls-Royce garage. The 'Farina Austin' ADO10 Westminster body was at the core of that Bentley project and it was easy to use the development for a new Vanden Plas car. BMC developed the Rolls-Royce 3909cc six cylinder alloy engine into the FB60 unit that was given to the Princess R. The 'Mini Bentley' did not catch on. 12703 3-litre Princess cars were sold and 6781 4-litre Princess R-types.

Vanden Plas Princess 4-litre R 1964. The ADO66 project had started life as one to create an entry level Bentley Java using a smaller version of the 6-cylinder Rolls-Royce engine previously used in the Silver Cloud Series I. When Rolls-Royce cancelled that project, BMC were sanctioned to carry on with a version of that engine, and turn the Bentley Java into the Princess 4-litre. Power came from the FB60 3909cc inline six cylinder 175bhp engine.
