Vauxhall Cresta E-series, PA, PB, PC The EIP Cresta was new for late 1954, introduced as a kitted out upmarket version of the Velox set against Ford's Zephyr Zodiac. The PA Cresta was launched in both Velox and Cresta ranges at Earls Court in 1957, and was given an uprated version of the E-series 2262cc 6-cylinder engine. A 3-speed column change gearbox was fitted and bench seats. Cresta cars were usually given leather seats, but both Velox and Cresta were quite well equipped. After 173,000 were sold, the PA series was replaced by the Vauxhall PB series. Launched at Earls Court 1962, the PB versions of the Cresta and Velox used a brand new body far more European than the winged PA Cresta. Launched with an upgraded version of the 2651cc 6-cylinder engine from the PA Cresta, the PB engine gave 113bhp, but was enlarged in October 1964 to 3294cc giving 128bhp. Launched in 1965 the PC Cresta was available in 3 versions, the PCE Executive was called 'Viscount'. Styled like the Chevrolet Impala The PC series had the 'coke bottle' waistline which was also given to the FD Victor and the HB Viva. Vauxhall did not apply the name 'Cresta' to another model when this one was retired in 1972. |
