Vauxhall E-series Cresta 1954-56 Under David Jones the E-series body drew inspiration from the 1949 Chevrolet. The EIP series was launched as the 1442cc Wyvern and the 2275cc Velox, but a new 4-cylinder 1507cc engine was given to the Wyvern in 1952 and a new 6-cylinder 2262cc unit to the Velox at the same time. The EIP Cresta was new for late 1954, introduced as a kitted out upmarket version of the Velox set against Ford's Zephyr Zodiac. The biggest change came in 1956 when body revisions included new larger front and rear screens and thinner pillars and grilles again were altered. Model codes changed to EIX for Wyvern, EIP for Velox and EIPC for Cresta. For the final year, 1957, new horizontal grilles were given to all models and larger tail lights with red and amber lenses. |
