Vauxhall PB Velox and Cresta Launched at Earls Court 1962, the PB versions of the Cresta and Velox used a brand new body far more European than the winged PA Cresta. The design team of David Jones responded to criticisms about the over America predecessor, and also that it had too many rust traps so the PB was designed to be more restrained. However, the design wasn't entirely new since it used exactly the same doors as the Victor FB. Launched with an upgraded version of the 2651cc 6-cylinder engine from the PA Cresta, the PB engine gave 113bhp, but was enlarged in October 1964 to 3294cc giving 128bhp. The Velox PB was mechanically the same as the Cresta PB but was equipped with a 4-speed floor gearchange in place of the Cresta's 3-speed column or automatic. Less well equipped, the Velox saved one hundred pounds on the purchase price compared to the Cresta. In 1965 the Cresta PB was replaced by the 3.3-litre Cresta PC, but the Velox name was dropped at this point. |
