Vauxhall Victor '101' (FC) Launched in 1964, the FC or '101' replaced the FB. Supposedly having '101' improvements over the outgoing FB, in fact this story is a myth and '101' was simply the start of planned new coding system which subsequently stopped with the FC. The FC Victor had 'tumble-home' window glass (for wider waistline), and indicators set into the bumpers - both being firsts for car design. David Jones steered a new course with the design of the FC. However, the FC had similarities with the 1965 Opel Diplomat designed by Leo Pruneau in Detroit, and subsequently reworked by him into the Holden HD. The 1594cc engine was inherited from the FB Victor, but boosted to 60bhp in the FC, or 85bhp for the twin Zenith VX4/90. A modest restyle was given in 1967, with a new grille and badging, and after 238,000 were sold the FD Victor replaced the FC in late 1967. |
